About
the Authors
Vickie Jensen juggles a number
of careers, including writing, teaching, lecturing, photography
and running Westcoast Words. She feels that reading and writing
books has encouraged her love of adventure—she has bicycled
across Canada, taught on cruise ships and spent years working with
native peoples of the Northwest Coast. Her non-fiction books and
articles reflect her fascination with people and the work they
do. As founding editor of Westcoast Mariner magazine,
every month for nearly four years she went to sea on a different
kind of boat, interviewed its crew and wrote about their work.
She met co-author Harry Bohm while working on an article about
British Columbia ’s subsea industry. Vickie and her anthropologist
husband have lectured about Northwest Coast native culture on Alaskan
cruise ships and have written more than 40 Native language and
culture school books for First Nations groups in British Columbia
and Washington state.
Harry Bohm was project manager at Simon Fraser
University ’s Underwater Research Lab in Burnaby , British
Columbia . He now travels extensively and consults with various
organizations, including the Marine Advanced Technology Education
(MATE) Center in Monterey , CA , on subsea and clean water projects.
Harry became interested in building submersibles and underwater
exploration as a teenager; it was a passion that got him into the
field of subsea engineering he so loves. Now he’s researching
and developing simple, sustainable and inexpensive water pumps
and filtration systems using solar energy. Harry is also working
on a science adventure novel that will encourage readers to probe
the more exotic mysteries and locales of the world while learning
some of the technology used in scientific exploration.
Vickie Jensen and Harry Bohm have co-authored:
